We Replatformed 3,300 Products and Lost Nothing

OptiMA Inc. makes whiteboards and visual workspace products and sells them through MyWhiteBoards. The scope was unforgiving: rebuild the entire platform without losing the traffic, the sales, or a single record. A replatform almost always costs you both in the short-term. This one did not.

The Challenge

A Catalog This Size Is an Operation, Not a Website

3,300+ custom-configurable products, resellers and wholesalers with their own pricing, and search pages that carry most of the traffic. Every change was a fight with the old platform.

The old platform hid order logic in database triggers and legacy code. Resellers had nowhere to self-serve. Product configuration was painful enough some products did not make it to market, other on site customers abandoned during the journey. And underneath it all sat two decades of customer records, orders, and catalog data that could not be lost.

They didn't need a new website. They needed the same business, operating on a platform that could finally keep up with it.

The core risk:A replatform almost always costs traffic and sales on launch day. With 3,300+ products, 442 search-ready pages, 15+ integrations, and years of order history in play, a single migration error could mean lost revenue, broken SEO, or corrupted customer data.
What We Built

A Platform That Operates the Way the Business Actually Does

Commerce platformA custom platform built for 3,300+ configurable products and the fulfillment workflows behind them — manufacturing variations, customization rules, and order complexity included.
442 search-ready pagesSearch-optimized pages that carry most of the traffic from Google and internal search, each tuned for buyer intent, product discovery, and conversion.
15+ integrationsInventory, pricing, fulfillment, reseller management, CRM, and analytics, all wired in without data loss during migration.
Pro AccountsResellers and frequent buyers manage their own orders, addresses, and account pricing in one place, reducing ops work and improving self-service.
Zero-data-loss migration3,300+ products, their variants, reseller pricing, integration mappings, and years of order history moved without a single record lost.
Launch with no dipA replatform almost always costs traffic and sales on launch day. This one did not. The team planned for every order scenario, and execution was clean.
How We Build

Bank-Grade Engineering, by Default

The practices that let a two-person team ship a platform this size safely, and keep operating it.

1

Three identical environments

Development, staging, and production run on isolated AWS accounts. Customers never see broken code, and the same version-controlled infrastructure builds every one.

2

Automated quality gates

Security scans, dependency checks, secret detection, and tests run on every change. No path to production bypasses them, and releases ship with one deliberate button press.

3

Fail-closed defaults

Payments, email, and marketing automation refuse to run unless explicitly in the right environment. A test cannot charge a real card or email a real customer.

4

Bank-grade data handling

Customer data is encrypted at rest with rotating keys and in transit, isolated per environment, with PII scrubbed before it leaves the production boundary. Consent is tracked from day one.

5

Security built in, not bolted on

Katalor Security was designed into the AWS build from the first commit, not added after launch — least-privilege IAM, isolated accounts, automated scanning, and threat detection are part of the platform's foundation, not an afterthought.

The Outcome

A System That Works as Hard as the Business Does

Design-to-order capabilityCustomers can now design custom whiteboards directly on the site. The old platform made configuration a fight; the new one makes it intuitive, so more customers finish orders instead of abandoning at cart.
Reseller self-servicePro Accounts let resellers manage their own orders and pricing. Less work for OptiMA's team, a better experience for repeat customers.
AI-ready infrastructureProduct recommendations, demand prediction, and reseller behavior modeling are all possible because the data layer is clean and the integrations are reliable.
Operational clarityThe system is knowable and changeable. Where the old platform hid order logic in legacy code, the new one is transparent. Changes get deployed and tested in hours, not weeks.
Security we still run todayWe didn't hand over a platform and walk away. We still run all of it today on AWS, with 24/7 monitoring, continuous scanning, and threat detection keeping the store, its orders, and two decades of customer data protected long after launch.
Client Perspective

In Their Words

"Continuous improvement has always been part of how we operate. It's how we run our manufacturing, and it's how we approached this site. We mapped the customer journey, found the friction, and rebuilt around it. This new platform makes our products, including custom whiteboards, easier to design and order. With Pro Accounts, our resellers and frequent buyers can manage their orders, addresses, and account pricing in one place."
